ANCHALA - ombre dyed cotton

The word Anchala in sanskrit is a feminine name and translates to “One end of the saree which is free”.

While we don’t see this fabric as a girl, or a boy, we were inspired by the idea of creating a pattern out of play. The end of the saree which is free cannot hold one shape, or pattern. Which is exactly how this fabric came about.

We played with dip dying the individual yarn by hand, in different shades. Once the warp was secured to the loom, our weavers got to work to hand weave this pattern. However, the very nature of this weave is the element of surprise. One couldn’t know where each color of the yarn would fall.

Anchala is a strong, upholstery weight cotton that isn’t a stripe or a plain but can be used in the place of both. It offers both texture and depth and will create great movement in upholstery pieces.
